Anonymous asked: As a guy, what's the best thing to say to a female friend when she brings up a street harassment incident? I think a lot of guys (even those who don't do it) don't get how problematic/hurtful it can be. I'm looking at a thread now where some guys aren't being the most tactful although I think they're theoretically trying to be supportive. "Comforting" might not be the right action either, depending on severity of the incident.

I’d just say, “That sucks. That guy wins the Zero Sensitivity Award.” or something like that. Just sympathize with her. Later you might say, “You know, I was thinking about what you said the other day — and I was thinking that dude probably didn’t even realize what a dick he was being,” and you can get into a conversation that way. But right after she tells you, it’s best to just be sympathetic. You sound like a cool dude!
