Hi Sara. I dealt with depression and now I'm seeing my mother go through it much much worse than I did. I sat down with her and told her she needed help. Eventually she found someone who she sees every other week. She is on multiple medications and has panic attacks. (She took all this before she saw a therapist, why the doctor would let her take this without long term care I don't know) she's definitely getting better but she's still not even close to her old self. Should I be doing more 2 help
You can’t fix anyone, not even your mother. You can be supportive, you can lend a listening ear, but your job is not to be her therapist or to let her drain your energy or your emotions. She needs to be responsible for her own care as much as possible. I’m not suggesting a tough love approach. I am suggesting you take care of yourself first and her second.
