I know that times are tough for a lot of folks, but this is a wonderful woman who’s one of the “inner sanctum” of my group of school friends, thus far, and she’s really struggling just to keep her head above water and to be able to afford to go to grad school and pay all her bills. She basically works from 5 AM til 9:30 PM four days a week when she has class, and the other three days works as long as they will let her AND has to do all her homework, and she has a 4.0 GPA thus far. And now we’ve started our field work so she’s got to work in at least two days a week at an elementary school from 9 AM to 3 PM. 

She’s just a good, kind, bright, creative and wonderful woman who is going to be an amazing teacher and myself and our two other friends have decided she deserves a break. She shouldn’t have to worry about when the library closes, or go there after an 8 to 12 hour shift instead of sleeping, or not being able to see her boyfriend, whom she lives with, more than 15 minutes a day.

It’s not medical bills, or a house payment, or something else that you’d probably categorize as a critical need. But to me, it’s critically important. In order for her to continue to succeed as a graduate student, to even finish this program, she needs a working computer that is hers and hers alone and that she can use whenever she needs to. This is a woman who will be a phenomenal educator. Hundreds of students over the next 20 to 30 years of her career will be better students, better writers, better readers, better people because she was their teacher.

The cookies I am making are gluten free and taste like brownies and are full of Ghirardelli chocolate chips. If that’s not enough to compel you to get over to Cameron Village tomorrow, I don’t know what is.
