I'm remarkably pro-nap.

Anonymous asked: I've been struggling with major depression, agoraphobia and anxiety for years but (hopefully) I'm on the mend. I'm scared I don't know how to be healthy though, and sometimes even that I don't want to be healthy. How do I leave the house/ how do I make myself want to leave the house

I highly recommend Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn’s “Full Catastrophe Living” to help you learn how to manage anxiety and pain (emotional, spiritual, physical, mental or otherwise) on a day to day basis. It’s basically a toolkit that anyone can use. I believe these mindfulness techniques will help you get out of the house.

I find it helps to write encouraging notes to myself and leave them around the house where I will find them when I wake up in the morning. I know it sounds silly, but it is really helpful.

And finally, engage in a therapeutic relationship that works for you. Remember that there are many therapists out there, and some will even work on a sliding scale basis with your finances. Go therapist shopping and find the one who is right for you.

And in conclusion: if you take meds, don’t switch them up without asking a psychiatrist first.
